More about this coffee and its origins
Ethiopia - Beyene Dori - Kurume - Washed | Specialty Coffee
Beyene Dori is a respected smallholder coffee farmer from Wegida Village in Yirgacheffe District, Gedeo Zone, Ethiopia. Raised by his grandparents in Tulise Village, he inherited his first coffee farm from them and learned traditional coffee farming practices through years of working alongside them.
After starting his own family, Beyene moved to Wegida Village, but supporting a growing household from a small coffee farm was difficult. The expansion of coffee cooperatives in the 1990s improved his family's income and livelihood through financial and technical support. A second turning point came in 2017, when Ethiopia's coffee market reforms allowed farmers to sell coffee directly to the central market and international buyers.
Now in his early eighties, Beyene continues to actively manage his 3.5 farm, marketing his high-quality Kurume coffee as a single-variety lot, earning premium prices for its clean and distinctive cup profile.
Today, he produces 2,400–3,000 kg of export-quality green coffee each year.
